Solution: Most connection issues can be resolved by checking distance, timing, and allowing enough time for the pairing process.
Step 1: Check Distance and Position
Move your extender closer to your main router (within 10-15 feet) during the initial pairing process. You can move it to its final location after successful pairing.
Step 2: Verify Your Pairing Steps
- Briefly press the pair button on your main XG7 router
- Within 30 seconds, press and hold the pair button on your XG7 extender until the LED changes color.
- Be patient - the pairing process can take up to 5 minutes to complete
- Watch for the status lights to indicate successful connection
Important: The 30-second window is critical. If you miss it, start over with Step 1.
Step 3: Allow Time for Connection
The uplink between your XG7 devices needs time to establish a strong connection. Wait the full 5 minutes before assuming the pairing has failed.
Step 4: Reset and Start Fresh
If pairing still doesn't work after multiple attempts:
- Power off your XG7 extender completely
- Reset the extender to factory defaults (hold reset button for 10 seconds while powering on)
- Wait for the extender to fully boot up
- Start the pairing process from scratch following the adding an extender KB article.
Quick Troubleshooting Checklist
- ✓ Extender is within 15 feet of main router during pairing
- ✓ Pressed pair buttons within 30 seconds of each other
- ✓ Waited full 5 minutes for pairing to complete
- ✓ Both devices are powered on and functioning normally
